Events of the English Civil War
This war was between the Royalists and New Model Army lasting for seven years. King Charles the 1st led the Royalists who were made up of nobles, militia, farmers and the British navy. The opposition was Oliver Cromwell and the New Model Army were made up of men called "Roundheads" because they hair was cut like a bowl cut. These men were highly disciplined, religious, and had lobster tail helmets. King Charles' strategy was win fast because he had limited resource and his opposition had control over the richest part of England. There were two important battles in the English Civil War, the Battle of Marston Moor in 1644 and The Battle of Naseby in 1645. Back at Parliament since all of member of the House of Commons left to support the king Parliament was left in the hands of the Puritans and Presbyterians, two groups who constantly fought. King Charles lost the English Civil War and was arrested. The Presbyterians were chased out by Colonel Pride in Pride's Purge leaving Rump Parliament to trial King Charles. The English Civil War left England divided and scarred.
